Down this long and winding road

Corn fields line both sides

Stalks stand in rows like soldiers

Oblivious to how little time they have left

Tender frames stand tall and tan

Heads scorching under the summer sun

Ahead the reaper draws blades

To pick them off in mass

Their remains join those that came before

Around the corner a plaque honors those who have fallen here
